Leading a Team Transition to Drupal 8
You help lead an amazing team of developers. They are talented, innovative, efficient, and have an uncanny abilty to balance client requirements and project budgets. Problem is, none of them have experience in Drupal 8, and you just convinced your new client that D8 is the best platform to use for their incredibly complicated project that you committed to building with a D7 budget.
ThinkShout faced this very situation, and I suspect we weren’t alone. Our leadership team spent many months before and after the release of Drupal 8 planning, and worrying about, getting our development team up to speed on Drupal 8 and researching the best way to plan for those projects. When the first big project hit, we were ready and got the job done. There were lots of challenges on the way, and we certainly made many mistakes. This session will explore those and more.
- How our Drupal 8 “book club” helped the team learn the ins and outs of Drupal 8.
- How we revised our Drupal 7 workflows to Drupal 8.
- How we estimated Drupal 8 projects, never having done similar work before.
- How we approached porting our marquee Drupal 7 modules.
Most importantly, we’ll explore the outcomes of our first Drupal projects and what we learned from those experiences.
